On September 15, 2026, the Fair Housing Justice Center (FHJC) will host a free webinar on accessible design and construction.
The webinar, Accessible Housing: A Civil Right, is designed to increase awareness of federal accessibility laws and regulations, and to help ensure that new buildings are correctly designed and constructed right from the start.
Attorney Scott Moore, a longtime friend of the FHJC and a nationally recognized legal expert on design and construction requirements, will be returning as an instructor. He will be joined by architects John Torkelson (Founder) and Rex Pace of The Access Partnership LP, one of the premier architectural accessibility consulting firms in the nation.
Together, the instructors will provide detailed and reliable information about federal fair housing accessibility requirements under the Fair Housing Act, Section 504 (Rehabilitation Act of 1973), and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
“Architects, builders, contractors, building engineers, real estate professionals, attorneys, government officials, disability rights advocates, and others are all welcome to attend this important webinar,” according to FHJC Executive Director Marie Winfield.
“The FHJC has long sought to increase the number of accessible apartment units in our service area—it is a core piece of our mission,” Winfield said. “Because our ultimate goal is compliance, we strongly encourage developers to attend this webinar.”
The webinar will take place on September 15, 1-4 PM ET. It is free to attend, but pre-registration is required. Click HERE or visit bit.ly/FHJCWebinarSep15 to register.
Please note that each registrant will receive a unique access link that may not be shared or forwarded.
This webinar will not be recorded. If you are unable to attend, another live session is planned for Spring 2027.
The FHJC is listed by the NY State Board of Architecture as an approved provider of continuing education for architects licensed in New York. As such, this course meets one of the three criteria necessary for New York’s continuing education requirements for architects. However, it is up to the licensee to determine if this course meets all three of the requirements.
The mission of the FHJC, a nonprofit civil rights organization, is to eliminate housing discrimination; promote policies and programs that foster open, accessible, and inclusive communities; and strengthen enforcement of fair housing laws in the New York City region.
