Here at Traveller, we know that summering on the Greek islands is one of the most idyllic ways to holiday. So it came as no surprise when reports surfaced in 2025 that the Prince and Princess of Wales had taken their three children to Kefalonia, the largest Ionian island off the west coast of Greece. According to Tatler, the family boarded a luxury yacht to sail around the island's coast. The yacht in question – Lady Beatrice – is owned by British financier and entrepreneur Peter Dubens. The family were joined, according to reports, by Michael and Carole Middleton, as well as other relatives, for a multi-gen getaway.

It's a well-known fact that the royal couple loves a spot of skiing – in fact, their relationship was first revealed to the world during a much-publicised getaway to the Swiss resort of Klosters in 2004. While Klosters remains Prince Charles’s ski spot of choice (he’s such a regular there he even has two chair lifts named after him), William and Kate prefer the charms of the French Alps, in particular the luxe resort of Courchevel. It was here that the Duke and Duchess took Prince George and Princess Charlotte for their first holiday as a family of four in March 2016, with images released of them all beaming in the pristine powder (a spokesperson revealed the holiday marked the first time either of the children had played in the snow). The family returned to the same spot for the Easter holidays a few years ago, with the extra addition of Prince Louis this time. They were spotted having fun on the slopes, with eyewitnesses stating that Kate’s sister Pippa Middleton also joined them on the trip.

Almost 12 years ago, a secluded cabin on the shores of Lake Rutundu became one of the most famous places in the world when William chose this as the spot to propose to Kate Middleton. The couple drove up to the remote location from Lewa Downs, the wildlife reserve where they have holidayed in the past and where William spent part of his gap year before attending the University of St Andrews. Staying in an off-grid lodge with no phone signal or electricity, the getaway certainly didn’t have the plush mod-cons the royal couple are used to. Surrounded by lush forests and mountains, the area is known for its spectacular views, which are best spotted from the lodge’s outside veranda. One of the area’s guides revealed that the couple fished and relaxed while they were there, while Kate remarked on how the cabin was an ideal spot for romance in the guest book. “I love the warm fires and candle lights – so romantic!” she wrote. “Hope to be back again soon.”

Kate is such a fan of the private Caribbean island of Mustique that the press once dubbed her ‘Queen of Mustique’, a title that had previously belonged to Princess Margaret – though, in fact, the Duchess had been holidaying there with her family long before she married William. The couple has spent numerous happy getaways on the island: in 2018 they attended the 50th-anniversary party for Mustique’s iconic beachside watering hole, Basil’s Bar, where they were said to have danced alongside Mick Jagger, while Prince George has celebrated numerous birthdays there. The island has plenty of royal pedigree – part of St Vincent and the Grenadines archipelago, Lord Glenconner first bought it in 1958, before gifting Princess Margaret a plot of land there in 1960 following her wedding to society photographer Lord Snowdon. The Princess promptly set about building her villa, Les Jolies Eaux, which she visited every February and November until her death, while William and Kate were said to have stayed at the glamorous Villa Antilles during their most recent visit in 2019.
