Apple will today announce its earnings for its fiscal Q3 ending in June, with the usual Q&A with analysts following immediately afterwards. It follows the company briefly hitting a $5 trillion market cap before slipping back slightly.
Today will be the final earnings call with Tim Cook as CEO, and analysts aren’t expecting any surprises – but there will be one very big question …
No surprises expectedThe company said back in April that it expected continued revenue growth in the 14% to 17% range year-on-year, and Zacks reports that the consensus expectation is almost exactly in the middle of this.
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for Apple’s upcoming quarter’s EPS and revenue is $1.88 and $108.8 billion, marking year-over-year EPS and revenue growth of 19.75% and 15.64%, respectively.
While that would give it a Zacks rating of a hold rather than a buy, the firm does note that Apple has exceeded its consensus estimate in each of the previous four quarters.
Motley Fool’s recent round up rated it a buy, but notes that the average target price is pretty much flat. The site says that’s not unusual given a rapid climb in a relatively short time as there’s usually a lag in analysts revising their price targets.
But one big questionInvestors will be very keen to hear Apple’s expectations for the impact of the new Apple Upgrade program.
The company will of course be hoping that making purchases more affordable on a monthly basis will help to offset the recent price increases, but does Apple expect it to simply stem the tide of sales that might otherwise have been lost, or is the firm anticipating it will drive significant growth?
That’s the question likely to drive market reaction to today’s earnings announcement.
