The Mars Society is pleased to report that the Flashline Mars Arctic Research Station Advance Team, consisting of Terry Trevino, Rhett Woods, Raleigh Swick, and Dr. Laura Thomas, has arrived safely on Devon Island in Nunavut Territory, marking the official start of the 2026 Canadian Arctic field season.

Over the coming days, the team will prepare the station for the upcoming arrival of Crew 19 by carrying out critical maintenance and infrastructure upgrades, including improvements to the habitat’s heating, electrical, and ventilation systems. They will also install a new environmental sensor package to monitor CO₂ and other potentially harmful gases, helping ensure a safe and productive mission for this summer’s crew.

“Devon Island remains one of the best places on Earth to prepare for Mars. We’re excited to begin another Arctic field season at Flashline,” said Mr. Trevino.

Located approximately 900 miles (1,450 km) from the North Pole, Flashline is one of the world’s premier Mars analog research facilities, providing scientists and engineers with an extraordinary environment for testing technologies, conducting field research, and preparing for future human exploration of Mars.
