John Barrowman's arrival on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here sent fans wild on Sunday night, as they rushed to Twitter to share their love for the self-proclaimed 'sci-fi gay icon.'

The 51-year-old actor was the first celebrity to make his debut on the show, and certainly made an impression with his impromptu singing and naughty innuendos.

And despite already having a large fanbase, many viewers were quick to share their support for John as he headed into the jungle, with some already tipping him to win the show.

From the offset John proved a big hit with viewers as he hilariously flirted with one of the waiters, and described himself as a 'sci-fi gay icon' due to roles in Doctor Who, Torchwood and Arrow. 

But the actor still threw himself into the challenges at hand, leading the red team to victory and the better camp in Croc Creek.

At one point John even embraced his inner Aquaman, swimming from behind the boat to help the team to victory, and one of his team-mates joked that he was 'pushing from the behind.'

And when they misplaced one of the tokens, John was seen dramatically bending over in the back of one of the jeeps, leading Nick Knowles to say: 'I bet that's not the first time you've been in that position!'

And John even turned the show into a musical of sorts, breaking into lyrics from The Sound Of Music and Home Is Where The Heart Is.

His hilarious antics went down a storm with the watching public, who gushed on Twitter that John was already their favourite camp-mate. 

One posted: 'John Barrowman has been my idol since he was in Doctor Who. I'm so excited for this!'

Another added: 'Imagine going on I'm A Celeb and John Barrow being there I just??? would never stop fangirling.'

A third also tweeted: 'Can we just skip the next few weeks and crown John Barrowman king AND QUEEN of the jungle?' 

It came as this year's camp-mates made their long-awaited arrival in the jungle on Sunday for the launch show, with John Barrowman joined by stars such as Nick Knowles, Anne Hegerty and Harry Redknapp.

The show also saw Holly Willoughby make her debut as presenter alongside Declan Donnelly, after his usual hosting partner Ant McPartlin took a hiatus for the rest of 2018.

Monday's show will see Inbetweeners star Emily Atack face the first Bushtucker Trial of the series, after she earned the most votes out of the residents of Snake Rock to face the tough challenge.
