Police on Sunday said they stopped a man who was carrying weapons near North Carolina State University's campus in Raleigh.

According to NC State University Police, officers were called to the area of Western Boulevard and Varsity Drive after Raleigh police officers received a report of a person walking with a firearm.

Police officers said they found the person and took him into custody. WRAL News reached out to Raleigh police, who said the man was carrying a pistol and a rifle strapped to his body on Western Boulevard at Varsity Drive.

NC State police said they determined that the man did not violate state law and was released, adding that the man was not on campus at any point.

NC State authorities directed any additional questions to the Raleigh Police Department.
