Chula Vista Police investigating hit-and-run in Otay Ranch caught on video

Дата публикации: 12-04-2026 15:00:02

Zachary Morales will never forget the night of April 1, when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver.
“I look to my left and then as I look back I see this car coming right at me,” said Morales. “Just the impact and I went launching over the car about 15 to 20 feet, landed on the ground and just excruciating pain,” he added.
The Chula Vista Police Department (CVPD) said that the incident happened at approximately 7:28 p.m. at the intersection of Olympic Parkway and Heritage Road in Chula Vista.
Officers arrived on scene and located the 35-year-old driver of a motorcycle, Morales, lying in the intersection with injuries. CVPD said that the investigation is ongoing.
“I’m still in pain. I wake up every morning in pain,” said Morales. “I can’t go to work, I can’t do the basic things, just the basic things that I took appreciation for of just being able to get up so easily and walk to the kitchen or go to the bathroom,” he added.
Morales suffered a broken leg and still has a long road to recovery. Thankfully, he said, the injuries he sustained are likely not permanent. In the meantime, however, he cannot continue enjoying his passion of riding motorcycles.
“At first I was really, probably frustrated by the fact that—how can somebody just leave like that. But I don’t know their circumstances, so I’m not trying to judge,” said Morales.
Morales provided video of the hit-and-run to NBC 7 that was recorded with an Insta360 X 5 mounted to his bike. Despite the video showing a clearly visible license plate number, it’s difficult to distinguish who exactly was behind the wheel.
“I’m just trying to recover as fast as possible, and just kind of get back to my normal life again,” said Morales.
NBC 7 reached out to CVPD for more details on a possible suspect and are waiting to hear back.
