New Delhi: The liabilities of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) have risen to ₹40,000 crore in 2025-26 from ₹30,960 crore in 2021-22, communications minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said in a written reply to Parliament on Wednesday.
The government, he said, has taken various financial and administrative measures for the company due to which it has remained Ebitda positive since 2020-21.
As per data shared by Scindia, "Against total liabilities of approximately ₹40,000 crore, MTNL holds approximately ₹50,000 crore of non-core assets in market value terms."

The state-run company, incorporated in 1986 to provide telecom services in Delhi and Mumbai, came under severe financial and competitive stress.
Scindia said the government has undertaken various financial and administrative measures for MTNL for payment of liabilities.
He said MTNL's Ebitda improved steadily from ₹43 crore in 2023-24 to ₹195 crore in 2024-25 and ₹437 crore in 2025-26.
