Everton are reportedly eyeing a move for Crystal Palace goalkeeper Sam Johnstone as a contingency should Manchester United follow up on their interest in Jordan Pickford.

The Toffees are yet to receive an enquiry for Pickford from Man United, with the Red Devils searching for a new goalkeeper this summer.

David de Gea is increasingly expected to leave the club, with United confirming last week that discussions were continuing over a new contract as they look to slash his weekly wages from £375,000 to just £200,000.

Reports have claimed Man United could make a £45million bid for Pickford, despite England No 1 signing a new contract with the Merseyside club in February.

According to the Sun, Everton could turn to Johnstone if Pickford is lured away to Old Trafford this summer.

Johnstone has three years remaining on his deal at Selhurst Park but reportedly has a £10m release clause in his contract.

The 30-year-old forced his way into the Crystal Palace team in the latter stages of the season.

Johnstone started the last nine matches of the Premier League campaign, as Roy Hodgson's side enjoyed an impressive run of run to pull away from the relegation battle.

His form led to a recall to Gareth Southgate's England squad, with Johnstone having been on the bench for the Three Lions Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia.

The goalkeeper, who has won three England caps, joined Crystal Palace last summer on a free transfer from West Brom.

Johnstone had impressed for the Baggies during the 2020-21 Premier League season, but was unable to prevent the club from suffering relegation to the Championship.
