Following the United Kingdom government’s designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Harakat Ashab Al Yamin Al Islamia (HAYI) as terrorist organizations, Dr. Efrat Sopher, Chair of the World Jewish Congress Taskforce on Islamic Extremism, stated, "the international designation of the IRGC as a terrorist organization plays a significant role in degrading and deterring the Iranian regime’s malign activities against Jewish communities worldwide, the free world, and the people of Iran.”
LONDON — Following reports that the British government is set to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its proxy, Harakat Ashab Al Yamin Al Islamia (HAYI), as terrorist organizations, Dr. Efrat Sopher, Chair of the World Jewish Congress Taskforce on Islamic Extremism, issued the following statement:
“The World Jewish Congress welcomes the United Kingdom government’s planned designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Harakat Ashab Al Yamin Al Islamia as terrorist organizations.
“These two Iranian regime-backed organizations have not only threatened the Jewish community in the United Kingdom — including through HAYI’s antisemitic arson attack on Hatzola ambulances in Golders Green — but are also part of a broader network through which the Iranian regime and its proxies have endangered and targeted Jewish communities worldwide. The IRGC, its supporters, and its proxies continue to destabilize the international community, both militarily and through the export of terrorism.
“The designation of the IRGC as a terrorist organization by governments around the world plays a significant role in degrading and deterring the Iranian regime’s malign activities against Jewish communities worldwide, the free world, and the people of Iran.”
The World Jewish Congress (WJC) is the international organization representing Jewish communities in 100 countries to governments, parliaments and international organizations.
