DENVER — A tornado watch for parts of the Denver metro has been allowed to expire. However, the Eastern Plains remains under a watch until 9 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

Strong to severe thunderstorms rolled through the Denver metro Monday afternoon, dumping heavy rain and pockets of hail.

6 p.m. | Delays, cancellations at DIA | There are a total of 4 cancellations and 837 delays at Denver International Airport as of 6 p.m., according to FlightAware.

5:59 p.m. | Tornado warning | A tornado warning was issued for eastern Elbert County and north central Lincoln County after a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located 7 miles west of Limon, moving east at 20 mph. The warning continues until 6:45 p.m.

5:30 p.m. | Weather update | Denver7 meteorologist Danielle Grant has the forecast as severe weather continues to move through the Denver metro area. A tornado watch is in effect for the area, along with the Eastern Plains, until 9 p.m.

5:28 p.m. Severe thunder storm warning | A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Adams, Arapahoe and Morgan counties until 6:15 p.m., per the NWS.

Up to 60 mph winds, quarter-sized hail and a tornado are possible with this storm.

5:20 p.m. | Denver "inadvertently" triggered its tornado sirens | Officials with the City of Denver said its tornado sirens were "inadvertently" activated today, even though there is no tornado warning in effect for Denver.

5:19 p.m. | Ground delay at DIA | The FAA has issued a ground delay at DIA until 9 p.m. due to severe weather. That means incoming flights will be delayed on their way to Denver until the FAA lifts the ground delay.

5:12 p.m. | Tornado warning | A tornado warning was issued for east central Elbert County after a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located 13 miles northwest of Simla, or 26 miles west of Limon, moving east at 25 mph.. The warning continues until 6 p.m.

4:53 p.m. | Tornado warning | A tornado warning was issued for southeastern Adams County after a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located 8 miles north of Byers, or 38 miles east of Denver, moving east at 25 mph. The warning continues until 5:30 p.m.

4:43 p.m. | Tornado warning | A tornado warning was issued for northwestern Elbert County after a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Kiowa. The warning continues until 5:15 p.m.

4:02 p.m. | Severe thunder storm warning | A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Brighton, Frederick and Fort Lupton until 4:45 p.m., per the NWS.

Up to 60 mph winds, pea-sized hail are possible.

4 p.m. | Delays, cancellations at DIA | There are a total of 2 cancellations and 508 delays at Denver International Airport as of 4 p.m., according to FlightAware.

3:57 p.m. | Severe thunder storm warning | A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Parker, Elizabeth and Franktown until 4:45 p.m., per the NWS.

Up to 60 mph winds, quarter-sized hail and a tornado are possible with this storm.

3:52 p.m. | Ground stop at DIA | The FAA has issued a ground stop at DIA until 5 p.m. due to thunderstorms. That means incoming flights can't land in Denver until the FAA lifts the ground stop.

3:51 p.m. | Severe thunder storm warning | A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Thornton, DIA and Commerce City until 4:30 p.m., per the NWS.

Up to 60 mph winds, quarter-sized hail and a tornado are possible with this storm.

3:38 p.m. | Severe thunder storm warning | A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Aurora, Glendale and Watkins until 4 p.m., per the NWS.

2:30 p.m. | Tornado watch | A tornado watch has been issued for parts of the Denver metro, including Denver, as well as the Eastern Plains through 9 p.m.

Per the NWS in Boulder, the following counties are under that Tornado watch: Adams, Arapahoe, Cheyenne, Denver, Douglas, Elbert, Kit Carson, Lincoln, Morgan, Washington, Weld, and Yuma.

Scattered hail up to softball-size likely, along with scattered wind gusts of up to 75 mph winds and a couple of tornadoes possible.

11:43 a.m. | Weather update | The National Weather Service in Boulder says the threat of very large hail is increasing for this afternoon, especially for areas near I-70 from just east of downtown Denver to the Kansas border. Current estimates released by the NWS show 3+ inch hail is possible.
