Department alumna Anne-Marie Imafidon won the Role Model of the Year prize at Booking.com’s inaugural Technology Playmaker Awards on 8 March.

Anne-Marie, who studied Computer Science and Mathematics at Oxford, is the co-founder of the STEMettes, an award-winning social initiative dedicated to inspiring and promoting the next generation of young women in the STEM sectors. Since its inception five years ago, it has exposed more than 17,500 girls across Europe to Anne-Marie’s vision for a more diverse and balanced science and tech community.

The role model category in the Technology Playmaker Awards was for women or men who acted as a role model in a technology field, driving change through that role, and encouraging the next generation of technology leaders.

By creating the new awards, Booking.com aims to recognise, celebrate and reward women’s achievements in transforming business, industry and communities through the use of technology. The women can then become a source of inspiration for future generations of women who are looking to embrace opportunities in the world of technology.
