Applications have opened for places on the University of Oxford’s free UNIQ summer school. Twenty young people will be chosen to participate in the Computer Science stream from 15 to 20 July 2018, alongside more than 30 other subjects on offer from the University.

The UNIQ Summer Schools provide an opportunity for academically gifted students, who have a passion for learning, to discover what it is like to be an undergraduate at the University of Oxford. It is open to Year 12 (or equivalent) students studying at UK state schools/colleges. Applicants for the Computer Science summer school must be taking A Level Maths (and preferably Further Maths) or equivalent.

The successful applicants will undertake a week-long intensive programme of academic study here at the department, while living in a college. The Computer Science stream will introduce some of the material that a Computer Science student would study as part of a degree at Oxford: participants will attend lectures given by Oxford tutors and participate in practical computing sessions where they have the chance to try some programming.

Existing undergraduate students will be on hand as mentors to guide participants through their experience of living and studying in a college. Throughout the week there will also be workshops on the application process, UCAS, interviews and much more. Evenings are spent socialising via a wide range of activities.

Preference is given to applicants who come from schools and areas with little or no history of successful application to Oxford. Therefore, an unsuccessful application to the UNIQ Summer School does not necessarily reflect on an applicant's likelihood of being successful in an application for undergraduate study at the University of Oxford.

The summer school is free to attend: transport, accommodation in a college and meals are provided free of charge to the successful students, together with the academic course and evening activities.

The deadline for applications is 11pm on 31 January 2018.
