Doctoral student Katie Leonard is one of just ten people in Europe to be awarded the 2012 Google Scholarship for Students with Disabilities.

The Google Europe Scholarship for Students with Disabilities aims to help dismantle barriers that keep students with disabilities from entering computing, encourages them to excel in their studies and become active role models and leaders in creating technology.

Katie is currently undertaking her DPhil in the field of Computational Biology, specialising in Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation of Tissue Engineered Bone. She is also a member of Jesus College.   Before undertaking her doctorate Katie did Mathematics at Oxford, and then worked for a couple of years in Investement Management, before returning to academia.

As part of the award Katie will attend the annual Google EMEA Scholars’ Retreat this summer, where she will have the opportunity to attend tech talks on Google products, network with other scholars and participate in social activities. The retreat will be held in June in the Google Zurich office, Switzerland.
