Global streaming giant Netflix is expanding its young-adult scripted slate with a pair of new commissions, including a series from Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Bad Robot.

JJ Abrams
Sid & Zoey is described as a genre-bending YA series that is equal parts supernatural mystery and romance from writers/showrunners Jon Kasdan and John Shiban, executive produced by Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Bad Robot.
The eight-parter will be exec produced by JJ Abrams and Rachel Rusch Rich for Bad Robot and Jason Blum, James Wan and Rob Hackett for Blumhouse Atomic Monster.
The plot centres on Sid, a sophisticated and amoral teenager from New York who is sent to live with a police chief and his family in Mississippi, where he teams with the chief’s punk-rock daughter, Zoey, to investigate the hidden supernatural world beneath the town’s façade.
A second commission, Sunshine Girls, follows Olivia’s fresh start in the suburbs of Valley Hills, California after her move from New York.
Starring Alma Marian, Isabella Fowler and Erin Rose Park and from creators and exec producers Rob Fishman and Nuria Anson, this series will debut exclusively on Netflix in December.
The series is produced by Brat TV, a division of ZATV, which is the digital studio behind teen series like Chicken Girls and Zoe Valentine, with more than 5.5 million subscribers on YouTube.
Elisabeth Rogge, Mary Lambert and Gavin Laing are the writers.
The new arrivals join existing Netflix YA series including Outer Banks and Ginny & Georgia; new series Crew Girl, A Different World, The Body, Poser and The Sticks; and films Don’t Say Good Luck and Best of the Best.
