Longmont saw one of the hottest Julys on record, and the heat stuck around the first few days of August.

Temperatures reached at least 90 degrees 27 days in July, including three 100-degree days, according to Dave Larison, a retired National Weather Service meteorologist who records and analyzes Longmont weather. That means the city has, as of the end of July, recorded 40 days of 90-degree or higher weather this year. Two of those days were recorded in March, according to Larison.

The NWS recorded 26 days in July that hit at least 90 degrees from its station in the southeast Longmont area near Rocky Mountain Elementary, according to Zach Hiris, a NWS meteorologist. That’s the second most days since 2003, when that station recorded 27 days of at least 90-degree temperatures, Hiris said. On Sunday, the temperature hit 100, tying the city’s Aug. 2 record set in 1924, Times-Call records show.

Temperatures were expected to hit triple digits again Monday afternoon, with a forecast high of 102, according to AccuWeather. That’s just 1 degree short of the city’s 1947 record of 103 for Aug. 3, Times-Call records show. The city’s all-time temperature record is 106 degrees, which was set in July 1973 and tied in June 1994, according to Hiris.

Residents can expect a brief reprieve Tuesday, with thunderstorms and a high of 78, according to AccuWeather. Then, it’s right back to highs above 90 degrees for most of the week. Boulder County Fair goers can expect high temperatures to hit at least 100 degrees Friday, Saturday and Sunday, according to AccuWeather.

NWS officials warn that high temperatures across the Front Range could lead to heat-related illnesses, according to a NWS warning. Take extra precautions by wearing lightweight and loose clothes, limiting strenuous activities to the early morning or evening and taking action against symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke, officials recommend.

In Boulder, unofficial temperatures recorded at the city’s airport Sunday tied the city’s official all-time record high of 104 degrees.
