A building on the Upper West Side has informed its residents that legionella bacteria has been detected in the hot water system, according to a memo obtained by NY1.

The memo was sent to residents of The Ardsley, located at 320 Central Park West, on Friday, informing them that the property owners had independently tested the hot water system. The West Side Rag first reported the discovery.

The memo also indicated that the building hired a water management consultant, who will flush and disinfect the entire system on Thursday.

The city's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene said it's not currently investigating The Ardsley and that the finding is not connected to the Upper East Side Legionnaires’ outbreak. There have been no cases of illness reported at The Ardsley, city officials added.

At least 54 people have been sickened by Legionnaires' disease during the Upper East Side outbreak, according to officials. Officials said 18 people have been hospitalized, and the affected ZIP codes include 10028, 10128 and 10075.
