7. Mayor and former U.S. Rep. Karen Bass faces a surprisingly competitive challenge for Los Angeles mayor as polling shows her in a tight race with reality television personality Spencer Pratt moving forward in the runoff, while Republican Steve Hilton and Democrat Xavier Becerra are currently battling for California governor with votes still being counted.

2. The U.S. Supreme Court sided with Alabama and cleared the legislature’s congressional map for the 2026 elections in a major victory for Republicans, this allows the state to use its proposed 6-1 map and avoids court-drawn districts favored by the media and their Democrats.

1. The Supreme Court ruling eliminating Alabama’s second Black-majority House seat sparked outrage, Alabama State Sen. Linda Coleman-Madison (D-Birmingham) said,  “Racism is real,” and “We’ve got to turn out every vote. Hopefully, this has created a situation that will have a boomerang effect.”
