Less than a month out from Alabama’s May 19 Republican primary, a new survey finds the top three candidates for the state’s open U.S. Senate seat separated by just four percentage points well within the poll’s margin of error.

First reported by Alabama Daily News, the survey, conducted by The Tarrance Group on behalf of Alabama Strong, a super PAC backing Attorney General Steve Marshall, polled 500 likely Republican primary voters between April 11 and April 14.

Here’s how the ballot test shook out:

  • U.S. Rep. Barry Moore – 28%
  • AG Steve Marshall – 27%
  • Jared Hudson – 24%
  • All other candidates combined — 14%
  • Undecided — 7%

The ‘all other’ bucket includes Seth Burton, Dale Shelton Deas Jr., Rodney Walker, and Morgan Murphy. Murphy exited the race earlier this year but will still appear on the printed ballot.

The margin of error is ±4.9 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, meaning Moore, Marshall and Hudson are all statistically tied at the top of the field. That’s contrasted with a recent Moore-backed poll that showed the 1st District Congressman opening up an 18-point lead.
