The Edmonton Oilers have one of the league’s more interesting goaltending situations to track entering the 2026-27 season, with three goalies who, in all likelihood, will occupy spots on the team’s NHL roster. The team acquired Tristan Jarry from the Pittsburgh Penguins in a trade last season, and he is under contract at a $5.375MM AAV for another two seasons. Edmonton also acquired Stanley Cup champion Frederik Andersen on a one-year, $1MM deal this summer, and traded a 2028 third-round pick for former top prospect Devon Levi. Levi, 24, will no longer be waivers-exempt next season.

According to Alan Mitchell of The Athletic, the early front-runner to be the team’s No. 1 goalie is Jarry. The 31-year-old “was [Oilers GM Stan] Bowman’s first choice to fix the position” and is being paid at a significantly higher rate than the other two netminders on the roster. But while Jarry may be the early leader to win the No. 1 role, his performance with the team last season does not lend huge confidence to the idea that he’ll be able to maintain a firm grip on the job. In 19 games as an Oiler, Jarry went 9-6-2 with a grisly .858 save percentage.

• Prospect goalie Jack Fichthorn has secured a release from the USHL’s Sioux City Musketeers and will join the QMJHL’s Halifax Mooseheads for the 2026-27 season, reports Jeff Marek of Daily Faceoff. The 19-year-old American goalie is, per Marek, “the first player to get out of the USHL’s new Standard Player Development Agreement.” Fichthorn was the No. 1 goalie in Sioux City last season, posting an .889 save percentage in 36 games. The Sacred Heart commit was selected No. 43 overall in the 2026 QMJHL Entry Draft by Halifax.
• Former Arizona Coyotes prospect Dennis Busby has signed a one-year contract extension to continue his professional career in England after what the team called an “an outstanding debut campaign” in the league. The 26-year-old will remain with the Manchester Storm of the EIHL, the top division of pro hockey in the United Kingdom. A 2018 fifth-round pick by the Coyotes, Busby is a right-shot defenseman who was once an alternate captain at the OHL level, with the Flint Firebirds. He played four years in the OHL and four years of USports hockey before turning pro late in the 2024-25 season, in the ECHL. After just 12 ECHL games, Busby made the decision to try his luck in Europe, and he’ll now be able to remain there for an additional campaign.
