I'd like to mention the Dark Conspiracy Backerkit happening now. Mongoose is going to bring it forward with three different eras.
A secret covert ops setting, open war, and then the final war.
Using the Traveller rules, but the books will be self contained.
The rulebook is a newspaper, and that’s awesome.
Someone on this site once made the argument that the newspaper format would be a cheap way to print adventures as you can unfold pages to use as battle maps.

And we're coming full circle... Judges Guild used to print their original subscription installments and journals in tabloid format in the seventies.

I am looking forward to this. HOWEVER, a horror game "in the modern era" while using the traveller system provokes an involuntary eyeroll every time I read it.
I like the idea of using a newspaper, but I hope the final product has more period-accurate typefaces. It's the kind of thing that doesn't seem like a big deal -- you can see bad fake newspapers in the movies all the time -- but getting the typefaces and layout right makes a huge difference in how real it feels.

I looked up after you made this post and yeah, they've made some dire choices there.

Hopefully their newsprint is more... survivable than the old Judges Guild stuff. And, the gods forbid it gets wet.

I don't think that super-cheap quality of newsprint is widely available nowadays. Even penny savers are printed on better quality stock.
I have a bizarre nostalgia for Hackmaster, even though I never read the comics or played the game. It's just I was so appreciative of the crude yet effective art, and that customers at my store seemed to really like it.
Oh, and the Kingdoms of Kalamar was a pretty good D&D-ish setting in the vein of Greyhawk or Forgotten Realms
