Just after Tesla pulled the plug on the Model S, Toyota’s Lexus may step in with a luxury electric sedan of its own. Lexus is reportedly bringing the IS back as an EV as soon as next year.

The next-generation Lexus IS will look nothing like the current model. Lexus updated the IS for the 2026 model year with a new design, but bigger changes are coming soon.

According to the Japanese news outlet Best Car, Toyota is set to introduce an all-new Lexus IS in 2027, exclusively as an EV.

The electric sedan is expected to draw inspiration from the LF-ZC concept car that Toyota unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show in 2023. As an EV, the IS will be considerably longer than the current model, measuring 4,790 mm (188″) in length, 1,880 mm (74″) in width, and 1,395 mm (55″) in height.

The Lexus IS EV will reportedly be available with single-motor (RWD) and dual-motor (AWD) powertrains, with up to nearly 500 horsepower (500 ps).

While no battery specs were mentioned, the report claimed Toyota is aiming for a target range of around 620 miles (1,000 km).

Toyota said in 2023 that the LF-ZC will join the Lexus EV lineup in 2026 based on a next-generation BEV architecture with high-performance prismatic batteries.
