Benelli has announced their newest home defense or tactical-style shotgun in the M2-G1 12 Gauge, which offers a brand new Rear Piston Operated (R.P.O.) Gas System and several other enhancements to push the needle for competitive shotgunners, recreational shooters, and home defense advocates alike.

The new Benelli M2-G1 shotgun looks aesthetically attractive, but what is new on the inside? For starters, they have beveled the loading port for faster reloads, you have the new RPO gas system, and enlarged controls for easier manipulations of controls with gloved hands.
“The all-new Benelli M2-G1 delivers a cleaner, more controlled approach to tactical performance through Benelli’s new Rear Piston Operated (R.P.O.) system. Designed around dual short-stroke pistons positioned closer to the chamber, the M2-G1 reduces fouling, improves long-term consistency, and delivers the rugged reliability expected from Benelli. Combined with aggressive tactical ergonomics, a 5-position collapsible stock, upgraded pistol grip, and extended 7+1 capacity, the M2-G1 is built to perform when everything is on the line.”
Benelli advertises this shotgun as “not just tactical, but territorial,” meaning with a shotgun as capable as this, you will own the area you are overseeing. Whether that is a 3-gun stage at a local competition, or if you deploy it in defense of your home. Stay tuned for a full TFB Review!

Buried the lede. Benelli exchanged the inertia action for dual piston gas!? In the M2? They should’ve just called it the M4 Lite. Confusing considering they just revamped their M2 field guns. Hopefully they release a field version utilizing this gas system. In the meantime, this M2-G1 should compete nicely with the 1301 after initial kinks get worked out. Regardless, Beretta Holding finally innovating at Benelli is nice to see.
Agree, why call it a M2, it's not inertia? M5??
