Google is introducing a new “Safety Hub” feature in Chrome. The feature, intended to replace the Safety check, is available in the Privacy settings.

What is Safety Hub?

“Chrome regularly checks to make sure your browser has the safest settings. We’ll let you know if anything needs your review”. chrome://settings/privacy page reads, with the call to action button provided to “Go to Safety Hub”.

Chrome Safety Hub introduction page

The feature is still in development.

Like Safety check, this could be an improved on-demand scanner to check the status for passwords, Chrome Update, Safe Browsing Protection, and dangerous or harmful extensions. It also includes checks on Notifications and Permissions, to warn and review permissions removed from unused websites and review sites that recently sent a lot of notifications.

The Safety Hub feature present on “chrome://settings/SafetyHub” currently shows three cards on privacy and security, with Safety recommendations and tips.

Safety Hub feature page

The first section “Safety at a glance” will give an overview of the current state of passwords, browser version, and safe browsing settings of the browser.

The second section, “Safety Recommendation” will show actionable modules about permissions and extensions based on the current state of the browser.

The “Safety tips” will show three safety-related features to provide some user education on how Chrome keeps the user safe.

Note: The page is still being prepared, that’s why you see limited information about it as of now.

How to enable Safety Hub in Chrome browser
  1. Launch Chrome browser
  2. visit chrome://flags
  3. Search for “Safety Hub” and select “Enabled”
  4. Restart Chrome browser.
  5. Click on the menu, select Settings, and click on “Privacy and Security” or visit chrome://settings/safetyHub.

The feature is being tested in Chrome 117. It’s unclear, why Chrome is rebranding Safety Check to Safety Hub.

Final words: Google is testing Safety Hub in the Chrome browser. It is to replace the Safety check in the future.
