Column misses mark on B.C. First NationArticle content

Lorne Gunter’s recent column presents faulty conclusions about the Tsetsaut Skii km Lax Ha Nation (TSKLH), drawn from a significant number of factual errors in the article.

The fact is TSKLH supports responsible resource development, as evidenced by its history. Among the errors: TSKLH did not go to court to stop the KSM mine. It should be noted that provincial superior court (not federal) Justice Emily Burke (who is not a man as the article states) did not rule the mine be halted. Indeed, Seabridge has stated they are moving full-steam ahead. The judge’s ruling had nothing to do with DRIPA. It was based on the Canadian Constitution and it was binding on the province, not Seabridge.

People standing up to predatory infillArticle content
So great to see people pulling together in a multi-pronged approach, working to turn the tide on predatory infill and the zoning bylaw. Between restrictive covenants, pending potential legal action(s), and a concerted lobbying effort to seek intervention by the province, people are finding their voice and their power. It’s great to see unity. It restores my faith in democracy.
