Wrights Plastics Ltd is investing in a roof-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) array at its manufacturing site in West Bromwich to reduce grid electricity consumption and operating costs. This includes on-site renewable generation sized to be consumed by the site’s existing daytime production load rather than exported to the grid. Site consumption data will be issued with the full tender specification.

An initial review of available solutions has identified the following equipment types as suitable benchmarks; however, alternative equipment will be considered where it can demonstrate performance equivalent to or exceeding the capability of the referenced items.

The proposed scope currently comprises:

• Solar PV modules – monocrystalline n-type, minimum 25-year product and 30-year performance warranty, with performance equivalent to or exceeding the capability of the benchmark JA Solar series.
• Grid-tied string inverters – three-phase, G99 compliant, with string-level monitoring and a minimum 10-year warranty.
• Mounting system – a commercial mounting system with supporting wind and snow loading calculations and a minimum 10-year warranty, equivalent to or exceeding the benchmark K2 Systems.
• Survey, design and modelling – site and structural survey, layout and schematic drawings, and a site-specific generation model sized against the site’s consumption profile.
• Installation and connection – all DC and AC works, protection, isolation and generation metering to BS 7671 and the IET Code of Practice for Grid-connected Solar Photovoltaic Systems; G99 application and network operator liaison; commissioning, certification

As a grant-funded project, all suppliers will receive the same information and be assessed against the same published criteria, on best overall value rather than lowest price alone.
