Homeland Security Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas defended his performance overseeing the border one day after the Senate dismissed articles of impeachment against him.

On Wednesday, Democrat senators voted kill the two articles of impeachment against Mayorkas passed by the House, ending the first trial of a cabinet secretary in 150 years early.

Less than 24 hours later, Mayorkas faced a grilling by visibly angry Senate Republicans who are still demanding he take responsibility for policies that have allowed an estimate nine million illegal migrants to enter the U.S.

The top Republican leading a hearing on the department's proposed 2025 budget Thursday told Mayorkas that he's disappointed and bewildered that 'Democrats let you get away with it.'

'You refuse to look at the facts and it's still, I guess, insulting to all of us and insulting to the memory of Lake and Riley and to the memory of others who have been killed by people who came into this country,' Paul, R-Ky., said.

'I have not read the articles of impeachment,' Mayorkas shockingly admitted when another senator, Mitt Romney of Utah, pressed him on the articles.

House Republicans voted to impeach Mayorkas in February for high crimes and misdemeanors related to his handling of the U.S. border and for lying to Congress. The senate voted to dismiss those articles of impeachment on Wednesday

Republicans say that Mayorkas has incentivized migrant to come across the U.S. border illegally because DHS has lessened penalties for doing so

'I’d probably want to do that,' Romney fired back.

Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., then ripped into Mayorkas for enabling border policies that allowed illegal migrant Jose Ibarra - who is accused of killing Laken Riley - into the U.S. because there was not enough space at the migrant processing center he arrived at.

After Hawley pressed him on why Ibarra was paroled into the U.S., Mayorkas responded: 'I will not speak to the particulars of the case.'

'Of course you don't want to, because it is an absolutely damning indictment of your policies,' Hawley exclaimed emphatically.

The GOP lawmakers also tore into Mayorkas for a DHS program that has facilitated flights of migrants from Latin America and the Caribbean into the U.S.

DailyMail.com previously reported that the Biden administration has flown at least 320,000 migrants into the U.S.

'Why are you mass importing tens of thousands of Venezuelans into our country via parole knowing they can't be deported because Venezuela is not accepting removal flights,' Sen. Roger Marshall asked Mayorkas.

'We are not doing that Senator,' the secretary quickly retorted.

'The term importation is incorrect,' Mayorkas clarified.

Marshall shot back: 'Why are you paroling them knowing Venezuela will not take their return flights?'

Guatemalan migrants deported from the United States walks on the tarmac after landing at the Air Force Base in Guatemala City. Venezuela currently is not accepting deportation flights from the U.S.

Mayorkas responded telling Marshall he was wrong.

'So that is false,' the secretary stated.

'We have, in fact, negotiated in the past removal flights to Venezuela, those are suspended right now.'

'We also remove Venezuelans to Mexico, for example.'

'You're twisting the truth,' Marshal responded visibly annoyed.

'This is really a de-facto amnesty orchestrated by  your administration,' Marshall said.
