A member of Senator Rand Paul's staff was brutally attacked in broad daylight and left with life-threatening injuries by a 'sex trafficker who had just been released from prison'.

Cops arrested and charged suspect, 42-year-old D.C. resident Glynn Neal, with assault with intent to kill after the vicious attack which happened on Saturday afternoon in Northeast, Washington D.C.

Records show Neal was released from prison on Friday - one day before the attack - after spending nearly 12 years behind bars for compelling two North Carolina women to engage in prostitution via the use of threats, a first-degree sex charge. 

Senator Paul released a statement on Monday shortly after the Metropolitan Police said in a news release that Neal had been charged. Neal's motive in the stabbing remains unclear.

The adult male victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, said the police.

'This past weekend a member of my staff was brutally attacked in broad daylight in Washington, D.C. I ask you to join Kelley and me in praying for a speedy and complete recovery, and thanking the first responders, hospital staff, and police for their diligent actions,' the senator's statement read.

'We are relieved to hear the suspect has been arrested. At this time we would ask for privacy so everyone can focus on healing and recovery.'

A police report said the victim had been walking down the street - the 1300 block of h street - when a man 'hiding in a corner' popped out and stabbed him multiple times before the victim was able to grab the suspects arms as another person tackled the suspect to the ground.

The attack is believed to be the second impacting a member of Congress or congressional staffer this year.

Last month, Representative Angie Craig said a man punched her in the face and attempted to grab her neck inside an elevator at her apartment building. 

Craig said she threw hot coffee at her assailant before he fled. The congresswoman suffered bruising but was otherwise okay.
