They are pleased with their recent performances with bat and ball, but the SA side are looking to tidy up their fielding.
Despite holding an unassailable 3-0 lead in their five-match series, Proteas all-rounder Chloe Tryon admits the SA women’s team are still looking for a complete performance ahead of the fourth T20 International against India at the Wanderers on Saturday (6pm start).
On their tour of New Zealand which concluded earlier this month, where they lost both the T20 and ODI series, South Africa paid for sloppy fielding as some White Ferns players who were dropped went on to rack up big match-winning scores.
And though they hadn’t suffered as much for their dropped catches in the first three T20 games against India, Tryon said it was important that they tidied things up in the remaining two fixtures of the home series.
“We just want everything to come together. I feel like our batting has improved a lot and our bowling has come a long way, especially after a tough New Zealand series, but I still think our fielding is probably something we can work on,” Tryon said.
“I think the good thing about playing well against India and obviously not doing well in the field is that we’re still winning matches, so hopefully all of that can come together and we can put in a perfect performance.”
World Cup preparationAhead of the Women’s T20 World Cup in England in June, Tryon believed fielding well would be crucial in their attempt to reach the final of the global showpiece in the short format for the third edition in succession, as they went in search of their first title.
“It’s just probably got to be a mindset, wanting the ball,” she said.
“I think sometimes when you drop a catch the ball tends to follow you around a lot, and we can’t be tentative in those moments. “e’ve got to be a bit braver and put our bodies on the line.
“So those are the conversations we’re having but I think everyone is holding themselves accountable because I feel going into the World Cup good fielding is going to give us a big chance of reaching the final.”
