Aussie comedian Celeste Barber and her 'hot' husband have split after 20 years together.

Api Robin confirmed the sad news on Friday night after he changed his Instagram profile description to 'Formerly Hot Husband'.

The couple share two sons named Lou Robin and Buddy Robin, while Robin has two daughters from a previous marriage.

'The past few months have been incredibly challenging and deeply heartbreaking for us both,' his post captioned 'Heavy hearts' began.

'After much reflection, the decision has been made to separate.

'There is still love and respect between us, but sadly we are at capacity and have come to recognise we may want for different things.

'Our priority remains our children and their wellbeing. We kindly ask for privacy and understanding as we navigate this.'

The post was quickly inundated with messages from well-wishers, including Olympic swimming great Libby Trickett and former Big Brother star Reggie Bird.

Barber was 21 and working as a bartender at a Sydney pub when she met Robin in 2006. The couple tied the knot in Bali seven years later. 

She is yet to publicly comment on the split. 

The couple have lived in Tweed Heads on the NSW/Queensland border for the last six years.

Last April, they sold their previous home on the NSW Central Coast for $1.045million. They had bought the home for $565,000 11 years earlier.

Barber, who rose to fame for her celebrity parodies and comedy skits, had previously written and posted about Robin frequently, referring to him as the 'hot husband' and 'Māori Adonis'. 

'It's harder to live with than I originally thought,' she previously joked in 2019.

'Now, don't get me wrong, I'm no dropped pie, but there isn't a 'hot wifey' hashtag hanging around my neck.'

She said it was love at first sight when they met and  joked that in the early stages of their romance she'd already determined their roles in the relationship. 

'I'm hilarious. You're breathtaking. I believe this is something that needs to take place in any relationship when the roles are so obvious,' she said.

'If I met him on Kiss Bang Love, I would have kissed him blindfolded and married him on the spot.

'He's kind, smart, caring and very, VERY patient. He's a fun dad and has really thrown his back into tolerating me. I love him with all the wine in the fridge.'

She told the Australian Women's Weekly a year later in 2020: 'He's the most fantastic human being in the whole land. I'm just obsessed with him.'

'He takes it all in his stride and he's really supportive and excited by how well I'm doing, because he knows what I do really makes up who I am.'

An expert arborist who has his own business, Robin last paid tribute to his wife in November after the comedian took her worldwide Backup Dancer tour to the US.

'What an encore! Thank you! So proud of you,' he posted.

Barber's tour will head to Europe in the coming months.
