She's known for mocking celebrities with spoof videos on Instagram.

And Celeste Barber has responded to critics who suggest her parodies are 'mean', insisting the purpose of her content isn't to attack individuals but to challenge unrealistic beauty standards.

The comedian, 39, was asked on the Today show on Tuesday if she's ever been 'too scared' to poke fun at a particular celebrity because of the power they wield.

'Don't hate the player, hate the game': Celeste Barber, 39, has responded to critics who suggest her parody videos are 'mean', insisting the purpose of her content isn't to attack individuals but to challenge unrealistic beauty standards

'I'm not scared to do anyone, because it's not about the person,' Celeste explained.

'It's "don't hate the player, hate the game", that's what it's all about. It's poking fun at the industry and cutting through the body-shaming crap that we are still fed all the time. So it's never about the individual, it's about the bigger picture,' she added.

Celeste had a similarly laid-back attitude when asked whether she ever feels nervous about offending celebrities such as Kylie Jenner and Bella Hadid with her posts.

Send up: 'It's poking fun at the industry and cutting through the body shaming crap that we are still fed all the time', Celeste said of her viral parodies. Pictured: Celeste (right) parodying a recent Instagram post by Bella Hadid (left)

'No. I'm OK,' she chuckled.

'I don't mind ruffling feathers. The people that I parody [are] the most privileged, beautiful, rich people in the world. It's not as though I'm going after people who are struggling or anything.

'You know what I mean, it's not a minority group. It's people who are the most privileged. I don't really worry.'

It comes weeks after Celeste landed herself in hot water after she brutally mocked an Instagram video featuring model Emily Ratajkowski

The Bras N Things ambassador parodied a post by Emily which showed her seductively leaning against a column in nothing but a pair of G-string bikini bottoms.

Just like the Blurred Lines star, Celeste teetered on sky-high stilettos; however, she stood on Astroturf instead of the concrete surface of the supermodel's fashion shoot.

She captioned the spoof post: 'We are sick of you objectifying our bodies! Also, here's my a**.'

Justified? When asked whether she ever feels nervous about offending celebrities, Celeste said: 'The people that I parody [are] the most privileged, beautiful, rich people in the world. It's not as though I'm going after people who are struggling or anything.' Pictured: Celeste (right) parodying a recent Instagram post by Kylie Jenner (left)

Same but different: Celeste (right) recently shared this hilarious photo of herself imitating Kylie Jenner (left) posing in a Jean Paul Gaultier Venus de Milo swimsuit

'The internalised misogyny is overwhelming,' pointed out one critic on Twitter.

'Misogyny is still misogyny even if you're the one making fun of women, babes,' another tweeted.

One person found the caption particularly galling given Emily had written an essay about her own feelings of objectification for The Cut.
