Goodbye!

Right then! I'm shooting off but please do have a read of Jonathan McEvoy's report from today's race.

The rain caused chaos but, at the end of the day, Max Verstappen remained dominant.

Thanks for your company. Bye!

Rain arrived late on in the race to cause chaos, with Fernando Alondo, who was pushing Verstappen for the win, having to pit twice after originally opting for dry tyres despite the wet conditions.

Verstappen wins again

A fourth win from six races for Verstappen.

Alonso comes in second almost half a minute later, with Ocon picking up a well-earned third.

Final lap

Lap 78/88: Kevin Magnussen is out.

Russell says he's just trying to bring the car home with some struggles. He's 11.6 up on Leclerc with a five-second penalty to come.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png Mclaren.png

15:46

Norris the fastest person on track

Lap 74/78: Verstappen has just double lapped his team-mate, and main championship rival, Perez.

The latter then comes in for more intermediates. Lando Norris, meanwhile, is three seconds faster than the race leader.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png Red_Bull_Racing.png

15:42

Verstappen still going strong

Lap 72/78: Tsunoda is overtaken by both McLarens and then has to use an escape road.

Verstappen meanwhile hits a wall again but is fine. He leads Alonso by 25 seconds.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png Mercedes.png

15:31

Russell asks to swap with Hamilton

Lap 65/78: Russell is on the radio asking to swap places with Hamilton to protect him from Leclerc, with the Brit to lose five seconds. Leclerc is 7.1s down anyway so Mercedes say no.

He asks about having a go at Ocon now!

Hulkenberg has been gives a ten-second time penalty now.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png

15:25

Alonso flying again

Lap 61/78: George Russell has a five second penalty for an unsafe rejoin, which saw him and Perez collide.

Magnussen is now off on the full wets.

Aonso is flying again, taking three seconds off Verstappen in the last lap.

Hulkenberg served his penalty incorrectly.

There are cars absolutely everywhere.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png Red_Bull_Racing.png

15:21

Verstappen well in front

Lap 59/78: Verstappen is now 22s ahead of Alonso. Ocon is pushing second too!

Magnussen has tried to make it round to the pits but stuck it in a wall. He's tried to pit for full wets. He's got it out though and can carry on.

Sargeant now has it in a wall too.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png Ferrari.png

15:19

Ferrari forced to double stack

Lap 57/78: Ferrari are double stacking and the Mercedes pass in the pits! Sainz was almost in the wall!

Everyone is in the intermediates bar Magnussen.

Stroll is out. His front wing is gone and he's in the wall but the track is fine.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png Red_Bull_Racing.png

15:16

Verstappen pits

Lap 56/78: Sainz loses a place to Leclerc. Alonso has made a mistake.

Verstappen pits for intermediates.

Alonso pits again now!

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png

15:15

In come the cars

Lap 55/78: Alonso pits and he's put dry tyres on! Medium for him.

Ocon goes for intermediates. It's raining in the pit lane.

Verstappen's hit a barrier but he's fine.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png

15:13

Rain causing chaos

Lap 55/78: Bottas and Stroll are the first in for intermediates. The cars are crawling round now.

Verstappen says his tyres are, erm, in trouble.

Half of the track it's lashing it down and half is dry. This is thrilling.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png

15:11

Rain has arrived!

Lap 53/78: It's raining. Yep.

We've got drivers going off the track everywhere. Russell coming into pit.

Here we go.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png

15:09

Rain on the way

Lap 52/78: Rain is on the way. Russell is complaining of it on the radio.

We could be set for an exciting turn.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png Red_Bull_Racing.png

15:02

Verstappen asking to pit

Lap 46/78: 'Not sure how much longer I can keep this up,' Verstappen says out in front.

In comes Leclerc for mediums and he comes out in eighth.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png Red_Bull_Racing.png

14:53

Verstappen pulls away again

Lap 40/78: More contact for Stroll, who battles Magnussen. He says he's got damage.

The gap between Alonso and Verstappen had closed to 6s but it's now back up to 8.5.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png Red_Bull_Racing.png

14:49

Perez hits Magnussen

Lap 36/78: Perez runs into the back of Magnussen but claims the Haas man brake checked him. Stroll has the place back, and Perez is going to come into the pits. It's not gone well for him.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png Mercedes.png

14:48

Hamilton out behind Sainz

Lap 35/78: Perez has overtaken Stroll off the track after he had moved out the way for Verstappen.

Hamilton is just behind Sainz after he pits. Frustrating for the Brit, but he is closer. They didn't change Sainz wing there.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png Mercedes.png

14:45

Mercedes try to undercut Ferrari

Lap 33/78: Mercedes bring Hamilton in and they're trying to undercut Ferrari.

Ocon finally pits. It's slow.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png Ferrari.png

14:43

Ferrari trying to bluff

Lap 31/78: Once again, the Ferrari crew are in and out.

I think they're trying to trick Alpine into pitting Ocon ahead of Sainz. Bait has not been taken at the moment.

There could also be rain on the way.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png

14:35

Sainz still out

Lap 26/78: The Ferrari engineers are out again but Sainz is ordered to stay out once again. This is a fantastic mini subplot.

Verstappen, meanwhile, is in a race of his own at the front of the grid. He's 11.5s up on Alonso.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png williams.png

14:27

Sargrant struggles

Lap 19/78: Lewis Hamilton ran over the debris from Sainz's car but I think he's fine to carry on. Weird.

We have a takeover! Kevin Magnussen goes down the inside of Logan Sargeant, with Stroll and Perez going past him in quick succession too.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png

14:21

Alonso asks if he has a puncture

Lap 14/78: Alonso asks his team if he has a puncture and they say no. But the gap to Verstappen is now over five seconds and he's losing significant time every lap.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png Ferrari.png

14:20

Sainz stays out

Lap 13/78: He's not come in, wow. The Ferrari engineers go back in.

It'll be up to the FIA to judge whether that's safe or not but he's losing downforce now and pretty much ruined his race.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png Ferrari.png

14:19

Sainz hits Ocon!

Lap 12/78: Sainz has hit Ocon! He was trying to win third place, telling his radio he was going to push, and went for a risky move that did not come off. His front wing is broken, but he stays out! He'll be in this lap I imagine.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png Red_Bull_Racing.png

14:13

Perez flying at the back

Lap 8/78: Russell gets away with it. No further investigation.

Verstappen has a lead of 2.3s at the front with the others falling behind. Perez, notably, is a second-and-a-half quicker than Verstappen, who is cruising, to be honest.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png Mercedes.png

14:09

Russell noted by the stewards

Lap 5/78: Russell has been noted for an incorrect start position. Looks like he was too far forward.

We're as you were in the top six.

Stewards are investigating Sargeant and Hulkenberg touching early on. The latter may get a punishment. Yep, a five-second time penalty.

Stroll has stayed out so perhaps doesn't have a puncture.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png Red_Bull_Racing.png

14:05

Perez pits

Lap 2/78: Perez pits straight away. He takes hards and will run to the end on them.

Zhou and Hulkenberg also pit.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png Red_Bull_Racing.png

14:04

Verstappen leads off the start line

Lap 1/78: We're underway and Verstappen gets away well as expected.

Hamilton almost gets past Sainz, also on hards, at the start, but no change.

Stroll and Hulkenberg have made contact. Stroll says he has a puncture.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png

14:03

Lights out on the way

The formation lap is done and we're about to get underway.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png

14:00

Alonso starting on hards

Alonso is on hard compound tires to start this race, with Verstappen on mediums. That plays massively into Verstappen's hands at the start.

Expect the defending champion to get away well but he may be challenged later.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png Red_Bull_Racing.png

13:59

One of Verstappen's best laps ever

Red Bull team principle Christian Horner branded Max Verstappen's pole lap one of his best laps ever. High praise for the world champion.

Read the full story down below.

The defending world champion came from 0.2s down from Fernando Alonso after two sectors of the last lap to pip the Spaniard by 0.08s and take his first ever pole at the iconic circuit.

Yuki turns 50

AlphaTauri driver Yuki Tsunoda is starting his 50th race in Formula 1 today.

It's been an up-and-down journey for him so far, but at 23, he has a bright future.

He'll start today in ninth.

60x60_icon_flag_monaco.png Ferrari.png

13:47

Leclerc down to sixth

Charles Leclerc qualified third on the grid for his home race but received a three-place grid penalty for impeding Lando Norris.

That will make a podium finish hard, but Ocon, Sainz and Hamilton are promoted a place as a result.

Time for the national anthem.

Qualifying recap

Max Verstappen is on pole after what was a flying final sector yesterday, making up nearly 0.3s in that sector to pip Fernando Alonso to top spot.

Our man Jonathan McEvoy is out in Monaco - have a read of his qualifying recap.

Fernando Alonso looked set to take his first pole in 174 races but the world champion pulled it out the bag in the third sector of his final lap to secure top spot for the first time in his career.
