As President Trump threatens a major escalation in Iran, signs are mounting that the U.S. military is preparing for a potential return to major military operations.
But experts are skeptical that an intensified air strike campaign — even if it takes out bridges, water facilities and electricity plants — will break Tehran or force tough concessions at the negotiating table.
"I don't think it will change Iran's calculation in any way, because from Iran's perspective, this is when they said it publicly, that this is a war of survival for them. So bombing from the air is not going to change Iran's calculation, even if the U.S. intensifies it," said Sina Azodi, the director of the Middle East Studies Program at George Washington University.
"The only thing that will happen is that, first of all, the entire region is going to suffer more. The Iranians have made it very clear," he said, adding, "I think it destroys any chance of diplomacy."
President Trump held a Friday afternoon meeting at the White House with his national security team to discuss military options against Iran, a source familiar with the meeting, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss national security matters, told The Hill on Friday.

It is not only necessary to vet the source of stories on FR anymore, now one must scrutinize the original poster as well by reviewing previous posts.
A review of this one will reveal a pattern of throwing shade on anything conservative up to and including the POTUS.
A growing trend on this forum is to cast doubt and negativity on MAGA or anything to the right.

Do you EVER comment on the subject at hand?
Have you ever considered taking a position and defending it?
Nay. Not once. You don’t have the cognitive capacity to do so.
So you snipe and emote like a 12 year old girl.

Got a text this morning that TBN Israel is reporting that Pres Trump wants to use a B61-13 bunker buster on Iran’s nuclear mountain.

FR has ALWAYS allowed material posted from lefty sources (e.g. Mother Jones, Rolling Stone). We are allowed to read them critically, and compare to conservative sources, and ideally, primary sources.
Mariner and I often disagree. He contributes to the discussion, sticks around, and doesn’t (to my knowledge) engage much in personal attacks even though he sometimes receives them.
Heck, I even miss Willie Green.

Negotiations and “concessions” are meaningless. The only way this war will satisfactorily end is if the mullah regime and the entrenched privlidged insiders are overthrown and deposed. Otherwise this war will remain a non healing open sore on the Trump Presidency. That sore is infected by demonic Democratic maggots that hope to suck the host dry and seize political power to destroy the American nation.

Iran is bigger than Alaska, right? And extremely mountainous. Taking and holding the ground will never work.
But destruction of the IRGC seems possible.
Get the regular Iranian Army involved.
Get the Kurds involved.
Get the Gulf State militaries involved.
Get a small but powerful expeditionary US force involved.
Use our air power to destroy the IRGC whenever they move out to meet any of these ground forces.
Set up a secular government under Pahlavi.
Have the Iranians rebuild Iran.

Ultimately, the IRGC will have to be eliminated by the Iranian populace. Not simply removed from power but exterminated. They are fanatical like the Nazi SS and cannot be reasoned with. Their end must be hanging from lampposts and bridges.
