Over the past year, U.S. anti-corruption policy has undergone significant shifts — from changes in FCPA enforcement to sanctions rollbacks and institutional drawdowns — raising questions about America’s global role. At the same time, anti-corruption movements are gaining momentum worldwide. Dani Schulkin speaks with Richard Nephew and Bruce Swartz about what these trends mean for enforcement, international cooperation, and the future of the anti-corruption agenda.

Richard Nephew (Bluesky - LinkedIn - X) is a Senior Research Scholar in the Center on Global Energy Policy and the Faculty of the Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs. He was the inaugural U.S. Coordinator on Global Anti-Corruption at the Department of State from 2022-2024 and served as Deputy Special Envoy for Iran in 2021.
Bruce Swartz is the Aharon Barak Distinguished Senior Rule of Law Fellow at Yale Law School. He is also a member of the Steering Committee of the Washington Litigation Group and a Senior Advisor (non-resident) at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C. From 2000 to January 31, 2025, Mr. Swartz served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice and as the Department’s Counselor for International Affairs.
Dani Schulkin (LinkedIn - Bluesky - X) is the Director of Democracy Initiatives at Just Security. She previously served as Senior Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General and Senior Advisor to the Homeland Security Advisor.
