In a surprising throwback, an unlikely new Worms game has appeared in a leak on X. The official artwork and name of Worms Galactic Tactics has been leaked by @intercelluar on X, who shared the official artwork alongside a caption saying that "New Worms game developed by Absolutely Games (Project Arrakis)."

Project Arrakis appears to be the new Worms game's internal code name, under which we previously got a look at some of the in-game content, including the art style and the isometric turn-based tactical gameplay. According to those prior leaks, Worms Galactic Tactics will have a similar gameplay structure to XCOM, but perhaps with the addition of roguelike gameplay mechanics. In previously leaked in-game screenshots, it seemed as though Worms Galctic Tactics would feature squads of five players per team.

Although Galactic Tactics takes a 3D isometric view of the map, unlike the Team17 Worms games, which were mostly 2D games with a side view, but it seems to retain the destructible environments that the game is famous for. Absolutely Games, the studio allegedly behind the new Worms game, is a relatively new studio, having launched in 2019, but it has previously partnered with Team17, the studio behind the original Worms run, on another strategy game called Classified: France '44. If that game is any indication, Worms Galactic Tactics will have a few more involved gameplay mechanics to spice things up.
