In Tokyo, Otonal has launched a podcast and audio ad localization service, to help global brands adapt their English-language content into the Japanese market. Literal translations, the company says, simply don’t work well in Japan, with complex levels of politeness, and grammatical structures that mean call-to-actions are at the end of a sentence.
The Scottish Podcast Awards took place last night. The event was marred by the audience booing the winner of the Best International podcast, The Rest is History. That award, which didn’t require a Scottish connection, was accepted by video. Otherwise, we’re told it was a positive event; the winners haven’t been published, we’ve asked for a list.
YouTube has 13.4% of all TV watching in the US, says Nielsen’s latest Gauge reports. Netflix is at 7.8%; Tubi is up to 2.3%.
In Spain, iVoox has launched a new set of AI tools to help creators. The tools will automatically generate suggestions for episode titles and descriptions, as well as, in future, automating moderation of user comments in the iVoox app.
An Australian podcast has helped drive a parliamentary inquiry into Tasmania Police responses to misconduct allegations. The part played by the podcast, Badge of Betrayal, has been acknowledged by Tasmanian Greens Leader Dr Rosalie Woodruff.
The Wirecutter Show, the popular product advice podcast, is coming to public radio in a new collaboration between The New York Times and American Public Media (APM). It’ll launch next month, and will be adapted to fit a broadcast format.
The Triton Digital Canada Podcast Ranker was released for May. Comedy show The Big Five was the highest new entry in the Canadian-made show list; The Drew Lane Show, a radio show airing in Ferndale MI, was the highest new entry in the full list.
