John Oliver is sticking with HBO’s Last Week Tonight for at least another year.

Oliver has signed a 12-month deal with the cable network, keeping Last Week Tonight on air until the end of 2027. His previous deal was up this year.

The interesting element is that it’s only a one-year deal, given that the British comedian has largely signed three-year deals with HBO over the course of his show, which launched in 2014.

That seems to be an indictment over the length of time that Paramount is taking to acquire HBO owner Warner Bros. Discovery with no sign that it will be settled any time soon as a result of the lawsuits that the David Ellison-led company is facing.

Oliver famously likes to chew up his “Business Daddies” on his show and regularly mocked owners such as AT&T and David Zaslav.

In March, days after Paramount surprised Hollywood by outbidding Netflix to strike a deal to acquire HBO owner Warner Bros. Discovery in a $110 billion deal, Oliver said, “It turns out we might be getting a new business daddy. Yeah, not great news. If I may quote anyone who’s ever accidentally sat on their Roku remote, ‘Oh sh*t, I’m in Paramount now. How the f*ck do I get out of this?”

Earlier this month, on Emmy nomination day, which saw Last Week Tonight land another late-night nod, Deadline asked HBO boss Casey Bloys if Oliver was signing a new deal. “We are talking to John, and would love to have that continue,” he said.

Last Week Tonight is currently in its 13th season, which runs through November.

The show is produced by Avalon and Oliver’s Sixteen String Jack Productions. Oliver, Tim Carvell, Liz Stanton, Jon Thoday and James Taylor are exec producers with Paul Pennolino as director.
