Prudhomme Fort Chapter CDXVIIC met for their annual spring meeting at ‘Beyond the Garden Gate’ Tea Room in East Ridge. Chapter business report preceded the Memorial remembrance for Lenore Levy, formerly of Signal Mountain.

A presentation by chapter President Janet Cantrell was made to the recipient of chapter ‘Dame of the Year’ Susan Whelchel, for her dedication and outstanding service to the chapter and community during the past year.

Chapter State awards were announced, being given at the recent state conference in March. First place awards: Colonial Heritage Day Promotion in Schools or Libraries, Janet Cantrell; five state sponsored education support scholarships for college students; donations to Veterans’ Services; and Grave Marker Preservation.

The total number of honor awards presented to Prudhomme Fort Chapter at state conference was twenty.

Colonial Dames of the 17th Century is a lineage organization that fosters interest in historical colonial research, aids in the preservation of records and of historic sites of our country and aids in the education of the youth of our country.

Highlights of past achievements are: historic Williamsburg Cemetery in Athens; recognizing outstanding individuals in early American history with cemetery cleaning and Dedication Day; sponsoring speakers on Colonial history; service to veterans through ‘Quilts of Valor’ presentations; Honor Flight sponsorships; and volunteering at the Chattanooga Outpatient Veterans Clinic.
