Lara Croft is taking another leap to smartphones and tablets. Feral Interactive recently announced that Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris is officially launching on Android and iOS on Sept. 8.

Serving as the direct sequel to 2010’s Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, which is already available on mobile platforms and was also handled by Feral Interactive, this new iteration brings back the identical twin-stick, isometric action that made the franchise a memorable co-op experience.

Back when Lara Croft and theTemple of Osiris originally hit the Sony PlayStation 4, Microsoft Xbox One, and PC in December 2014, it took everything that worked about its predecessor and pushed it further. It evolved into a more chaotic and fun multiplayer sandbox. Now, it looks like we are getting that exact same experience on mobile.

The setup feels like classic Tomb Raider. Lara teams up with rival treasure hunter Carter Bell and two imprisoned gods — Isis and Horus — to stop the evil deity Set deep in the Egyptian desert. You can tackle this campaign solo to hunt for the scattered fragments of Osiris and save humanity, or drag up to three friends into a gauntlet of ancient tombs, puzzles, and spike traps.

While the studio hasn’t slapped a price tag on Temple of Osiris just yet, it has not confirmed it will use a “try before you buy” model. This is honestly the best approach for premium touchscreen titles. It lets you download the app and experience the opening sections for free before unlocking the rest via a single in-app purchase. We’ve seen this strategy work nicely for other high-quality adaptations, such as Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, giving players a chance to ensure the game runs well on their device before committing their cash.

If you’ve been following our coverage here at REVU Philippines, you know that Feral Interactive is basically the gold standard for taking AAA hits and making them feel native on smartphones and tablets. We previously covered its brilliant 2013 release of the Tomb Raider reboot. And given the studio’s stellar track record of porting games, we have no doubt that Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris will be excellently ported when it arrives early next month.
