MOSCOW, August 24. /TASS/. Cooperation between India and Russia is characterized by adaptability and flexibility, while trade between the two countries has enormous potential for growth, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said.

"The partnership between Russia and India has consistently demonstrated adaptability, flexibility, and strength. Our cooperation, our engagement continues to deepen, reflecting the confidence on which our partnership is built. In recent years, our bilateral trade has grown to $60 bln in 2025. This, of course, shows the enormous potential of our partnership," he said at a regular meeting of the Russian-Indian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical, and Cultural Cooperation.

In this context, the Indian minister noted that "the current geopolitical situation is constantly prompting Russia and India to seek new opportunities and new ways to diversify." "The economic needs of our countries, in particular, are driving this search. The economic potential of our cooperation still leaves considerable room for further development," he stressed.

The Indian foreign minister pointed to the pace of cooperation in areas such as railways, space, fertilizers, energy, and mechanical engineering. He noted that discussions on a free trade agreement between India and the Eurasian Economic Union are also currently ongoing.

However, the minister noted that alongside the rapid growth in trade volumes, a certain imbalance has also emerged. "Addressing this trade imbalance is one of the key tasks before us. Eliminating tariff barriers, establishing clear mechanisms, and strengthening business engagement will enable us to address this imbalance and reach the target of $100 bln by 2030," Jaishankar added.
