Some of the most famous sex scenes in movie and TV history were filmed by actors who were waaaay younger than you probably realized. So, sorry in advance for potentially ruining a few of your favorite movies, because here are the 17 famous sex scenes that hit VERY differently once you learn the actors' real-life ages when filming...

Winona Ryder was just 16 when she filmed Heathers. Her character, Veronica, has sex with J.D., played by Christian Slater, pretty early in their relationship, before the two start killing their classmates and staging their deaths as suicides. Director Michael Lehmann later said, "She was 16 years old, whip smart, very aware of what the movie was about, and completely invested in the film."

Drew Barrymore was 16 when she filmed Poison Ivy, where her teenage character ends up having sex with her friend's father. Tom Skerritt, who played him, was in his late 50s at the time. Director Katt Shea later said of filming the sexual material, "Drew was as happy as could be. She had no problem with anything. I had to be really protective of her."

Claire Danes was 17 when she filmed Romeo + Juliet opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, who was 21. Their characters secretly marry and spend the night together before everything falls apart, so Danes was still literally a minor while filming one of the most famous movie romances of the '90s.

Dominique Swain was just 14 during the filming of Lolita, opposite Jeremy Irons. The movie depicts Humbert Humbert's abusive sexual relationship with Dolores (the teenager Swain plays). Because Swain was underage, the production used an adult body double for some of the sexual material rather than having Swain perform all of it herself.

Brooke Shields was 16 when she filmed Endless Love, which includes a scene depicting her character's first sexual experience. Shields later recalled director Franco Zeffirelli trying to get a specific reaction from her during the scene: "He wanted, evidently, for me to have a look of angst, or I guess ecstasy, on my face."

Emily Carey was 18 when they filmed Alicent's sex scene with King Viserys on House of the Dragon, and Carey was still 17 when they first read the scene. Paddy Considine, who played Viserys, is substantially older than Carey. Carey later said it "scared" her "because at that point, I still hadn't met Paddy, I didn't know how much of a joy he was and how easy he was going to make [the scene], and all I saw was, you know, a 47-year-old man and me. I was a bit concerned." They also credited the show's intimacy coordinator with making the actual filming process much more comfortable.

Reese Witherspoon was 19 when she filmed Fear opposite Mark Wahlberg. She later explained that parts of the movie's sexual scene weren't explicitly laid out in the script, and she refused to perform some of what was requested, so a body double was used for certain shots. Witherspoon said, "It wasn't a particularly great experience. I didn't have control over it."

Kaya Scodelario was only 14 when she joined Skins and was still a teenager when Effy's storylines began to include sex scenes. There weren't intimacy coordinators on the show at the time, and Scodelario later recalled, "It was all improvised. It was, 'OK, here's a sexy scene: go!' And that's terrifying."

Christina Ricci was 17 when she filmed The Opposite of Sex, where sex is a major part of her teenage character's storyline. Looking back on the sexualized roles she was playing at the time, Ricci said, "I was 17 when I made that movie. And I just felt, like, This is an adult, a respected film critic, and this is what they're allowed to say about me? So that kind of thing happening over and over again filled me with a lot of rage."

Florence Pugh was 19 when she filmed Lady Macbeth, which includes several sex scenes between her character, Katherine, and Sebastian, played by Cosmo Jarvis. Looking back on intimate scenes she filmed before intimacy coordinators were standard, Pugh said, "There are plenty of things I remember that were completely inappropriate — to be asked to do that, to be directed in that way."

Maria Schneider was 19 when she filmed Last Tango in Paris opposite Marlon Brando, who was 48. One simulated assault scene became especially controversial because Schneider said she wasn't told in advance about a specific situation involving butter. She later said, "During the scene, even though what Marlon was doing wasn't real, I was crying real tears. I felt humiliated and, to be honest, I felt a little raped, both by Marlon and Bertolucci."

Nastassja Kinski was 17 when she made the sex comedy Stay As You Are, where she plays the teenage lover of Marcello Mastroianni, who was in his mid-50s. Kinski later said, "If I had had somebody to protect me or if I had felt more secure about myself, I would not have accepted certain things. Nudity things. And inside it was just tearing me apart."

Katie Jarvis was 17 when she filmed Fish Tank opposite Michael Fassbender. She plays 15-year-old Mia, who ends up having sex with Connor, her mother's adult boyfriend. The Guardian later reported that Jarvis found filming the sex scene stressful. It was also her first acting role.

Taissa Farmiga was just 15 when she filmed a sex scene for Higher Ground, which was directed by her older sister, Vera Farmiga. Because Taissa was underage, their mother had to approve the scene. Vera later explained, "Now she's 16, but when we shot that, she was 15. And my mom, who is Ukrainian and Christian, had to give approval."

Liv Tyler was 17 when filming began on Stealing Beauty and turned 18 while filming was still being done. And her character, Lucy, eventually has sex for the first time. Screenwriter Susan Minot later recalled, "She actually turned 18 on set! I think filming started maybe the middle of June."

April Pearson was 18 when she started filming Skins, and being legally an adult affected how much sexual material she was given compared with some of her younger castmates. Pearson later said, "I turned 18 right at the beginning of filming, so I just had so many more sex scenes than everyone else." She then added, "At the time you're young, and you don't know any better [...] You don't really know what to say, to speak out, is this okay. And as with a lot of victims of trauma, you look back at it and think: 'Yeah, that was f*cked up.'"

And lastly, Brooke Shields was just 14 when she filmed The Blue Lagoon opposite Christopher Atkins, who was 18. The movie is full of sex and nudity as the stranded teenage characters develop a sexual relationship, although an adult body double was used for Shields.
