Brady Tkachuk says Leafs fans deliver loudest boos, mistakenly thinks Seattle in Canada

Ex-Ottawa Senators captain ranked jeers from Canadian fans on Wingmen podcast with brother, Panthers' Matthew Tkachuk.

Most hockey fans likely wouldn’t rank Brady Tkachuk as one of the smarter players in the NHL, but the former Ottawa Senators captain certainly isn’t helping his reputation with this latest flub.

It turns out the U.S. national team star might need a geography refresher after including Seattle in a list of Canadian cities.

During a recent episode of the Tkachuk brothers’ Wingmen podcast, Brady shared his experiences with Matthew of hearing jeers across Canada — especially after having won Olympic gold with the U.S. men’s national team this past February.

“Not in Vancouver. But I was booed pretty good in Edmonton, and I was booed in Calgary. Seattle, nothing,” Brady said.

Of course, Seattle is located south of Vancouver, across the border in the state of Washington — giving good reason why he didn’t receive a big negative reaction.

However, Matthew didn’t press his brother on the flub, instead moving the conversation along.

After Brady said that he was surprised by how much he was booed during a game in Calgary, Matthew asked him to rank the top three loudest boos he has received from Canadian fans.

“Toronto was the loudest boo because it was after a scrum and they had me on the Jumbotron, and everybody was booing me,” Brady said.

“I was so close to doing something outrageous … I was going to do something outrageous, but I was like, ‘Nah, I don’t want to put anybody in a bad spot.'”

They both joked that they didn’t really know what that would’ve meant doing before continuing.

“Second, I’m going to go with Edmonton, they were giving it to me pretty good.

“Third was Calgary. Just every time I touched the puck, they were giving it to me.”

Of course, with Tkachuk being a tough guy and a super-pest, he said that he didn’t mind the negative fan reactions he received.

“I love getting booed,” he said. “I think it’s so funny, it’s great. It means you’re doing something right.”

The bigger question for this coming season will be how Tkachuk’s former supporters in Ottawa will treat him when he comes to town with the Panthers.

The locker-room antics of the former Senators captain reportedly wore thin on the team and Tkachuk then forced his way to the Panthers via trade this off-season, where he joins his two-time Stanley Cup-winning brother.

In the deal, the Senators received the No. 9 and No. 25 picks in the 2026 NHL draft, a conditional first-round pick in 2029 (which is top-10 protected), and a second-round pick in 2027 — compensation which many felt was not an adequate return for the superstar winger, who held all the cards in the situation due to his no-trade clause.

Many Senators fans will rightfully feel aggrieved by the situation and won’t be likely to hold back when the three-time all-star returns to Bytown.

Sure, fans in Toronto aren’t likely to tone it down when the Cats are in town, either, but we doubt there will be as much vitriol as the Sens faithful will supply.

For the record, the Panthers’ first trip to Ottawa is slated for Wednesday, Oct. 21 — get your popcorn ready.
