VeDA is pleased to congratulate Jake McPherson, PT, DPT, NCS, on his new role as Chair of the Vestibular Rehabilitation Special Interest Group (VR SIG) within the Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy (ANPT).

The VR SIG brings together physical therapists and other professionals with an interest in vestibular rehabilitation, creating opportunities to share knowledge, advance clinical practice, and connect with colleagues working in the field. Jake’s leadership comes at an exciting time as VeDA and the VR SIG continue their longstanding collaboration to support education, awareness, and better care for people living with vestibular disorders.

As Chair of the VR SIG, Jake is excited to build on the history of collaboration between VeDA and the VR SIG to advance shared goals related to education, awareness, and improved care for individuals with vestibular disorders. The VR SIG offers resources and opportunities for vestibular professionals, including the “Abstract of the Week” evidence update, patient education fact sheets, the peer-edited Topics in Vestibular Therapy newsletter, quarterly online networking sessions, and opportunities for clinicians to connect across practice settings and geographic regions.

The mission of the Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy is a professional membership community advancing neurologic physical therapy through advocacy, education, research and clinical practice initiatives and resources to optimize movement and wellbeing for those at risk for or impacted by neurologic conditions. In addition to the VR SIG, there are seven other special interest groups within the Academy which include Assistive Technology/Seating & Wheeled Mobility, Balance and Falls, Brain Injury, Degenerative Diseases, Spinal Cord Injury, Stroke, and the Residency & Fellowship SIG. These special interest groups provide a forum to discuss advances in practice and the challenges of patient care within these specialty areas.

McPherson serves as a Clinical Associate Professor at the University at Buffalo, where his work includes teaching, clinical education, and professional development related to vestibular rehabilitation and neurologic physical therapy. He has provided continuing education programs on vestibular rehabilitation for physical therapists and other healthcare professionals, and he values interdisciplinary collaboration with colleagues in neurology, otolaryngology, primary care, sports medicine, and other specialties involved in the management of individuals with dizziness and balance disorders. His research interests include the effects of concussion on vestibular and oculomotor function, and he is a member of the University at Buffalo’s Comprehensive Concussion Management and Research Center.
