The 2026 Berlinale had its fair share of intriguing movies in its lineup, but “A Prayer For The Dying” was one of the most peculiar. Starring Johnny Flynn and John C. Reilly, the multinationally produced project is a first-rate frontier thriller. Don’t believe that statement? Well, the festival’s jury nominated the film for the Best First Feature award.

Based on Stewart O’Nan‘s 1999 novel of the same name, the movie follows the fateful decisions of a Scandinavian emigrant community who settles in the 1870s Wisconsin frontier.
