Sadio Mane made light of jokes about his marriage to his 19-year-old bride Aisha Tamba, as Senegal's president Macky Sall hosted the national team ahead of the African Nations Cup.

The former Liverpool star married his 19-year-old girlfriend Aisha Tamba in a ceremony in Senegal last week.

The wedding is believed to have taken place on January 7 in Keur Massar, an area in the capital city of Dakar, just six days before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations on January 13.

Reports claim Aisha 'was long intended for the 31-year-old footballer since her teenage years' though it is not known exactly how long they have been dating. The legal age of consent in Senegal is 16 years of age.

It was also reported by Pulse Sports that Mane had taken care of her bills when she was in school.

Mane's recent wedding was referenced by Sall as he hosted the squad at a traditional flag handover ceremony before the team travelled to the Ivory Coast for the Africa Cup of Nations.

'First of all, I would like to warmly congratulate our national Nianthi, Sadio Mane, who has just got married,' Sall said.

'I called him up so that we could applaud him and wish him a happy marriage.

‘May God bless your home and your descendants. From now on you have another job apart from scoring goals.’

Mane was seen laughing in response to the joke alongside his team-mates, with the former Liverpool and Bayern Munich forward covering his face with his hands.

Another video also has gone viral of a fan asking Mane about the wedding.

Mane is seen joking with the fan, while also stopping for photos with other supporters.

‘Thank you for the messages, except that all single people must now leave Senegal,' Mane said to the fan. 

The forward will be a key part of Senegal's title defence in the Ivory Coast, with the tournament holders set to face Cameroon, Guinea and Gambia in the group stage,

Mane had joined up with his team-mates days after his wedding to Aisha, which he revealed by sharing photos on social media. 

The photos show Mane and his wife, who grew up in the Casamance area of Senegal and is the daughter of an architect, holding hands and posing after the ceremony.

One image shows the pair sitting below a display of roses, with the words 'Mrs Mane' imprinted on the wall.

A video posted on X (formerly Twitter) by @abdullahayofel showed the two smiling and laughing as they sat together on a sofa after their wedding.

It was captioned: 'A very simple and humble man, congratulations Sadio Mane. May Allah bless your union.'

The wedding photos show Aisha wearing a mermaid-style intricate, fitted, lacey dress, with long sleeves and a silky veil.

Other photos show a second outfit - a silk white top and skirt combo, which she has teamed with a chunky gold necklace and earrings. The bride also has henna on both hands.

Mane is seen wearing traditional Senegalese dress in the pictures.
