Bringing their fall season to a close, the West High esports team competed at the Iowa High School Esports Association 2025 state tournament. The team competed against other teams across the state in Super Smash Bros. Watch the video above for more about the tournament and hear players’ voices on how they felt it went.

Head Coach Jeff Connor described their tough first match against ADM and said the match results were within expectations. He then spoke about how close their last match against Waterloo East was.

Although the team did not win the tournament, Conner looks back on the tournament in a positive light.

“The team showed tremendous growth and, honestly, at the beginning of the year, we didn’t think that we would make it to state. So it was, you know, satisfying just to be there.”

The next game the team will compete in is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in the spring season.
