A high-profile Moscow court sanctioned a warrant for the arrest of RFK Jr's son, Conor Kennedy, for his volunteer involvement in Ukraine's International Legion as an armed soldier.  

The Basmanny District Court in Moscow accused him of military action against Russia as a 'foreign mercenary' for the Ukrainian Ground Forces. If arrested, Kennedy could face a 7-10 year sentence.  

Conor Kennedy's defense team made an attempt to appeal the charge, but the appeals court upheld the district court's decision. The trial was held behind closed doors, TASS reported. 

In 2022, Conor Kennedy spent two months as a soldier for the International Legion, a military unit of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. 

Only one person back in the US was made aware of his location, and only one person in Ukraine knew his real name, Kennedy shared in an Instagram post after his return. 'I didn't want my family or friends to worry, and I didn't want to be treated differently there,' he wrote. 

'I had no prior military experience and wasn't a great shot, but I could carry heavy things and learned fast. I was also willing to die there.' 

The Instagram post shows Kennedy wearing a tactical vest with 'I am ready to meet my maker' handwritten across the back of it in Ukrainian. 

He told his father, Robert F Kennedy Jr, and stepmom, actress Cheryl Hines, that he was leaving his job at a Los Angeles law firm to 'do something else instead,' People reported in 2022. Soon thereafter, they saw his credit card had charges in Poland, and then in Ukraine.

RFK Jr said: 'When he got back, I kind of expressed some - I don’t know - whether it’s anger or whatever,' according to People. 'I knew his views about the war were not aligned with mine. Although he’s not naive at all about it. He’d been arguing vociferously for the U.S. intervention and he didn’t want to be one of these people supporting a war and sitting on the sideline.'

Conor Kennedy concluded his post with the statement: 'This war will shape the fate of democracy in this century.' 

In addition to Conor Kennedy, other foreigners are facing similar charges, according to Independent Ukrainian News Agency UNIAN. Among them are: US Citizen Tracy James Ingram Asbill, British citizen Joseph Richard Ryan Shorney, Colombian citizen Ramirez Ivan Tiku Dario, and Czech citizen Jan Trcka.
