Dear URI Students,

The University of Rhode Island has been selected to participate in the AWS Kiro for Students program, a philanthropic partnership. As a result, currently enrolled URI students can obtain free access to Kiro for one year.

Kiro is an AI-powered software development platform that uses AI agents to assist with coding and other software development tasks. It can be used for activities such as creating software prototypes, working with existing code, and organizing development work.

Eligible students receive 1,000 Kiro credits per month during the one-year program period.

How to get access

1. Visit the Kiro for Students site.
2. Sign in or create a Kiro account using your uri.edu email address. Kiro currently supports account creation using Google, GitHub, or AWS Builder ID.
3. Complete the brief student-status verification process through SheerID, AWS’s verification partner.
4. Once your enrollment is verified, you can begin using Kiro.

There is no payment required from you to obtain the student benefit.

As with any AI tool, students should follow the expectations and policies of their courses, instructors, and the University when using AI-assisted tools for academic work.

URI has developed a number of resources to support the University community in understanding and using AI thoughtfully and responsibly.
