“The Pitt” went back to back at the 78th Primetime Emmys, winning the Outstanding Drama Series category for the second consecutive year. The win establishes “The Pitt” as the show to beat moving forward and could be the beginning of another lengthy awards dynasty.

Created by R. Scott Gemmill, “The Pitt” became an immediate hit after it premiered on HBO Max in 2025. The show was praised for taking elements of classic medical dramas like “ER” that had fallen out of fashion and modernizing them for the streaming era, with a stress-inducing hour-by-hour format that was perfect for binge watching. It was originally the brainchild of “ER” star Noah Wyle and creator John Wells, who both serve as producers on “The Pitt.”

The show won three Emmys for its first season: Drama Series, Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Wyle, and Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Katherine LaNasa. The second time around, it received 12 nominations including seven different Supporting Actor and Actress nods for its ensemble cast.

Season 2 received strong reviews from critics, with many praising the sophomore outing for maintaining its tense pacing and focus on the larger institutional challenges facing the medical profession.
