Owners of certain crossover vehicles manufactured by the Volkswagen Group should get in contact with their local dealer for a repair, following a new recall issued by Transport Canada. The safety campaign, updated last week, is tied to an issue with corrosion affecting a bolt on a number of older machines, including the Audi Q3, VW Tiguan, and VW Atlas.

The recall states that, on certain examples of those particular vehicles, one of the bolts attaching the steering rack to the car’s subframe may corrode and break. If this happens, says Transport Canada, the steering rack housing could break in turn, which would cause a loss of steering control.

Transport Canada reports the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas and 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan may suffer this problem, along with the Audi Q3 from the 2019 to 2021 model years inclusive. In total, Transport Canada says up to 44,303 of these crossovers could be affected in this country. In typically understated government lingo, the recall outlines that the particular safety concern is that “a loss of steering control could create a risk of a crash.” You don’t say?
